The plan for the revitalization of Charleston’s midtown has been unveiled. The project will include the addition of 235 luxury hotel rooms, 140 to 205 condos, 35,000 square feet of retail space, 8,000 square feet of meeting space built across 4.3 acres of land that sits on Spring, Meeting and King Streets.
Just like the opening of Charleston Place in 1986 the developers of Midtown are hoping their $150 million project will be a catalyst for the revitalization of the upper end of King Street.
The lead developer of the project is Atlanta-based Regent Partners and they are working with Integral Urban Investments, also of Atlanta; Raleigh-based Cherokee Investment Partners; and Robert Clement III, president of CC&T Real Estate Services.
Midtown will feature a high-end hotel and street-level retail stores. The project includes the use of several existing, historic buildings on King Street.
Midtown will be built with private money.
The details of Midtown have been made public. The developers are preparing for a crucial meeting before the Charleston Board of Architectural Review on March 3. The height and scale of the buildings proposed are up for consideration at the meeting.
The project is expected to take about two years to build, and construction could begin late this year. For more information visit http://www.charleston.net/news/2008/feb/19/midtown_unveiled31081/
I think this would be a lovely place for me to find a Condo. That is if they are as lovely as Charleston, I write, paint and am old, 80 yrs. Sounds safe and many things to love about the town as my oldest son is moving to Charleston within the next two months. Keep informed let me know the plans for the condos and the price as I would have to sell my condo now.
Hi Ernestine,
Sounds like Charleston would be wonderful for you. The arts culture here is vibrant. Here is an update on the Midtown that we just published: http://www.charlestonproperty.net/news/commercial-real-estate/upper-king-street-real-estate-revitalization/. The Elan Midtown boutique apartments are slated for completion in 2013. No word on pricing yet, though. Plenty of other nice completed condos if you are thinking about moving sooner — around $300,000 to start.
