CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — As if there were any other plausible outcome, Charleston has been ranked the No. 1 city in the United States again, and has also been ranked the No. 10 best city in the world. The rankings come from Travel & Leisure. Charleston has topped the magazine’s “Best of” list for U.S. cities now for six straight years.
Touted for its coastal charm, renowned restaurants, rich history and more, Charleston tops metropolises such as New York, Chicago and San Francisco, and even some stiff southern competition from Asheville, Nashville, Savannah and New Orleans.
In fact, Charleston is the only U.S. city to be ranked by Travel+Leisure in the top 15 world cities for 2018.
Travel+Leisure writes of Charleston:
“The jewel of the South Carolina coast has crowned our list of favorite American cities since 2013. But that doesn’t mean the Lowcountry destination isn’t evolving. Thanks to an influx of business, Charleston is bustling with revitalized energy. A new generation of restaurateurs, helmed by Sean Brock of Husk and McCrady’s, is turning the city into an international food destination. Writes one reader: ‘I love the history, the art, the grits, and the proximity to Kiawah and other beautiful coastal areas. This is the perfect city for a girls’ weekend, a family vacation, or a romantic getaway.'”
These rankings come as no surprise to those of us who call the Lowcountry home. Y’all are welcome to come visit us either for a weekend at the beach this summer, or a good oyster roast this fall. (Credit: Channel 4 news)
