It’s not too late to make travel plans to attend Charleston’s Fall Tour of Homes & Gardens. Slated for October 3 – November 2, some of America’s most exquisite homes and gardens will be open to guests. Each residence in the Old and Historic District – built in Colonial days up to and through the 20th century – tells its own story. Docents at each site will greet you and share the rich history of those who lived there while pointing out significant architectural and fine decorative arts details. Each tour features six to eight private properties. In some instances, only the garden is open. Tickets are $60 per person and are limited.
Many of these homes are private residences, and not accessible to the public at any other time of the year. You don’t want to let this opportunity to view some of the world’s most exquisite homes and gardens as well as learn more about the history of the Holy City, pass by. Whether you’re a resident in the Charleston area or traveling to Charleston for the Fall Tours, you will have the wonderful occasion to catch a glimpse of Charleston’s famous past.
Some of the tours include: “Enduring Traditions: Ironwork of the Holy City Walking Tour,” “Invention of Wings: The Grimke Sisters of Charleston Walking Tour,” and “Gardens of Historic Ansonborough.” All proceeds from the Fall Tours support the Preservation Society of Charleston and their efforts to respect, cherish and protect Charleston’s rich history, unique culture, and significant historic materials.
